Isn't a almost 1 year old kitten too old for nursing?

I told you before: Pumuckl doesn't want to grow up. This is not only showing in his size, but also in the fact, that he still from time to time enjoys nursing. Sure not for the purpose of nursing. Pumuckl is almost 1 year old now, so I don't think he is successfully fed. But sometimes I catch him when he is sucking on Chica. He is quite noisy in this, I can tell you.

Before I was reading that by the age of 3 months the kitten is weaned and the mother cat will punish the kitten if it still tries to suck... Chica doesn't complain. She seems to truly love her kitten Pumuckl so she allows him to do anything. And he gets spoiled. Not only by us. While most cats grow out of this, Pumuckl still finds the suckling behavior comforting.

Cat nursing KittenWell, I couldn't catch a photo of this fascinating mother love, so this is a photo of May last year, when Pumuckl was just a few weeks old.

Wow, that's incredible that he still tries to nurse at his age! And amazing that Chica puts up with it!

That's a very sweet photo of them when Pumuckl was a little kitten.

Chica will still allow it? He must not actually be latching on, or she would surely whap him!!

He is! You can see it in Chica's nipple after (it's just one which he is always suckling). :)

It took a long time for our kitten Sebastian to grow out of that behavior too. When the mom cat and kitten lives in the same household, the little kittens do find it comforting. Our Yaffa never minded either, even though she no longer was producing milk. But Sebastian liked the comfort as well.

That is really interesting ... also interesting that she had only the one kitten. How sweet that they both stayed together and are so adorable.

I can't imagine trying that wif Bonnie... but she's not efun mine momma :-)
It's likely comfurting to them bof, so not a problem. Like thumb suckin, he'll outgrow it eventually. Or he'll bite an she'll ask him to stop.
They're furry cute togefur.

Our mum once had a kitty that was still nursing from his mother even though there was no milk, when he was when he was 6 or 7 years old. When his mother died, he tried to nurse from one of the other cats. After a lot of whapping he gave up.

Awe, Chica must be a great mom to be letting Pumuckl still nurse after all this time...

who amongst us wants to grow up?

That is sweet. A lot of cats do that on their beans but there is no milk there!

That's interesting - momo's kittens kept wanting to feed but she kicked them off after about 4 months.

My queens Olivia & Ophelia had 1 and a litter of 5 within days of each other. Ophelia wasn't producing enough milk and we lost 3 of the 5, so we placed the other two with Olivia. The 3 remaining kittens are 5 months old now and the two boys still suckle on Olivia. It looks so strange! She also took on another kitten that we brought home completely unrelated to her. He is only 3 months old, but he nurses when the boys don't. I don't think she's producing much milk when they feed, and they are all on solids. It's interesting!
